Sofia Meetings/Sofia IFF and VIDENIE present a selection of VR films as part of the festival’s first immersive program, curated and produced by VIDENIE.
Major international film festivals have been developing immersive and XR sections for years, and with this initiative Sofia joins the cities that are opening their stage to the new language of cinema.
In these films, the viewer is not just an observer but a participant — you step inside the story, move through space, choose your perspective, and at times even influence the rhythm of the narrative.
The selection is concise yet powerful — a focused encounter with diverse approaches to immersive cinema, featuring VR and mixed reality experiences across documentary, animation, and experimental forms. It marks the beginning of a platform for conversations around virtual reality, interactive storytelling, new media, and the use of AI as a tool in cinema.
Our goal is to initiate a platform for dialogue and exchange around the future of cinema: virtual reality, new media, interactive formats, and the role of AI as a tool in the contemporary filmmaking process.
