[EOL]. End of Life
How much life remains in a digital reconstruction of a person, and who has the right to decide which parts of our past should continue to exist?
“[EOL]. End of Life” is a German-Austrian project by the artistic collective DARUM, founded by Victoria Halper and Kai Krösche, in co-production with brüt Vienna.
For about 85 minutes, each participant independently explores the virtual environment using virtual reality goggles, physically moving around the space and interacting with the digital world using only their hands.
The production combines theater, performance art, and virtual reality to transport the audience into the abandoned spaces of an imaginary first metaverse.
They take on the roles of employees at a fictional technology corporation who must decide which of these digital worlds deserve to be preserved and which should be permanently erased.
The premiere is in 2024 in Vienna, and the production is among the ten most notable productions of 2024, according to the selection made by the Berlin Theater Festival in 2025.
The performance is part of ACT Festival for Independent Theatre 2026 and is presented with the special support of Goethe-Institut Bulgaria and the Austrian Cultural Forum.
